Pepper Talk with Samuel Van Uder
This month’s Pepper Talk takes us behind the scenes to learn more about Samuel Van Uder!
Before we jump in, here’s a bit of background: Samuel is a designer supporting a government client and became part of Eleven Peppers in June 2024.
1. Do you have any nicknames?
Sam!
2. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Move my dog and cat off of me and question why I get no personal space.
3. What’s your favorite part about working as a designer?
All of the variety of challenges and being able to channel creativity. I also enjoy the collaboration and interactions with clients and other designers.
4. How did you get started in this industry?
I was looking for a way to utilize my art skills and there was a vocational program recruiting at my high school.
5. What are your favorite tools of the trade? What are the worst?
I love Adobe illustrator! My least favorite tools are Microsoft ones haha.
6. Do you have a set process when working on a new design process?
For me, I try to tailor my process to whatever project I’m working on, but the base process is: Defining goals/scope, setting a timeline, executing the plan, receiving feedback/adjusting, and then presenting!
7. What do you draw inspiration from?
Lots of video games, comics, and music videos.
8. Rapid-Fire Round:
Caffeine or no: I don’t feel any certain way about it.
Sweet or savory: Both have their time and place, but sweet.
Favorite TV series: It’s between Sonic Prime and 911 (which are two very different vibes).
Favorite place to travel: I am a big adventurer, I’ll travel just about anywhere. Favorite local place is probably NYC since I have friends there! But I also enjoyed my trip to Germany to visit family!
Hobbies: I like to draw, play video games, play DnD, and do various crafts.
9. Okay, admission time… What’s your go-to website to find inspiration?
I like mobbin.com. I also love looking at video game UI on gameuidatabase, which is great for designs including a LOT of text.
Thanks for meeting Samuel! As always, stay tuned for next month’s Pepper Talk to meet another member of our team!
