Pepper Talk with Cheryl W.
It’s time to get to know Cheryl Wang in this month’s Pepper Talk!
Just a little background before we get started, Cheryl works as a designer supporting several government clients and 11p marketing. She’s been with Eleven Peppers for almost a year!
1. Do you have any nicknames?
My parents call me mei-mei or “Mayo” at home. Mei-mei means “little sister” in mandarin.
2. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Snooze more times than I’m willing to admit. Then, when I’m ready, I look at my phone to get an idea of what my day is going to look like.
3. What is your favorite part about working as a designer?
Every project is like a puzzle with no “right” answer. It’s a good workout for both the logical and creative side of your brain!
4. How did you get started in this industry?
I’ve always loved to draw since I was a kid, but I finally decided to make it a career and pursue Graphic Design and Marketing in college after binge watching Mad Men in high school. I worked at a souvenir company after college for a bit, where I gained a ton of illustration experience. Now at 11p, I also get to make cool illustrations but more marketing-based designs too!
5. What are your favorite tools of the trade? What are the worst?
Favorite: Pencil, paper, Illustrator and Photoshop
Worst: Sharepoint
6. Do you have a set process when working on a new design project?
I usually start off with some research and/or looking at inspiration. Then I like to sketch out some ideas using good ol’ fashioned pencil and paper. Once I have an idea of where I’d like to lay out certain elements, I create the design in Illustrator and keep refining it until it all looks right.
7. Rapid-Fire Round:
Caffeine or no: Sure!
Sweet or savory: Definitely savory. Salt & vinegar…mmmm….
Favorite TV series: Arrested Development (pre Netflix)
Favorite place to travel: I haven’t traveled to a lot of places yet, but so far at the top of my list are the national parks in Utah and Arizona. Pictures don’t do those places justice.
Hobbies: Watching cooking videos, hiking, playing bad golf, and petting other people’s dogs
9. Okay, admission time… If you could pick one design that you wish you had come up with first, what would it be?
The iPhone because….all the reasons!
Thanks for meeting Cheryl. As always, stay tuned for next month’s Pepper Talk to meet another member of our team!
